Self Balancing technology can be in your scooter or bike at 10% of additional cost only

Day by day the technologies are getting advance. We all had heard about the self balancing bike back in 2016 when BMW had unveiled the self balancing bike fitted with emission-less engine. The company released as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations. Again, in 2017 when Honda had shown its self balancing bike along with the Riding Assist technology. It was the concept model exhibited at CES 2017, the world’s largest consumer electronics and consumer technology tradeshow. But till now we have not seen those technology at our Indian Roads. Year by year time passes away and Liger Mobility is an EV startup which is incubated at SINE-IIT Bombay* developed a very unique “Self Balancing Technology” which enables a two-wheeler to balance itself and makes the ride safer and fignificantly comfortable. Asutosh from the IIT Kharagpur has 15+ year of experience in building technology products with multiple companies in India and Europe. Vikash Poddar Co-founder of Liger Mobility Vikash is an engineering graduate from IIT Madras and MBA from ISB. He has the experience of working in area of technollgy, strategy and finance.

Technology Highlights:

Self Balancing- Either you are driving or you are at red light traffic signal, this technology gives complete freedom to keep Feet on the footboard, not on the road. Let self technology balance your bike or scooter in all the situation and you drive very much comfortably. This technology will be very helpful during the dumper to dumper traffic conditions and now no need to worry about soiling your shoes when you are forced to stop over that puddle of water. Voice Activated Parking Assist:- Don’t worry if you have parked your bike or scooter in any tight space. Voice Activated Parking Assit will help you to bring your vehile to you remotely with the help of Voice Activated Parking Assist. Self-balancing technology helps in this function. Adoptive Balancing:- This is one added feature or advantage over the self balancing technology. Whenever you are driving alone or with pilion the intelligent balancing System is fully adaptive to the varying loads even from the sides.

Story behind the “Liger Mobility

: When they decided to work on something new technology to make the driving experience better then they come to the point to do something which can truely transform the riding the experience of two wheeler. To create the differenciated offering the idea of “self balancing” 2 wheeler technology was the more better than doing the same thing which all are doing in the market. This technology can enhance the driving experience and safety of the petrol or any electric 2 wheelers. Real engineering has been applied and after several prototype now company has done the petent for this technology. Company claims that to incorporate this technology in any two wheeler the cost will be very less or some what equal to the 10% cost of the two-wheeler.

RUSHLANE – Electric scooter by IITians can self balance like Honda concept – Video

Auto giants like Yamaha and Honda have shown concept motorcycles which can self balance. Though this technology is not launched in any production two wheeler, as it is still in R&D and very expensive. Now, IIT Bombay incubated EV startup has managed to come up with a similar self balance tech, which they claim is not expensive. Founded by two IIT graduates with extensive experience, Liger Mobility (http://www.ligermobility.com/), an EV startup, brings cost-effective self-balancing technology to scooters. This system can be installed in any automatic scooter. Cost of this tech is 10% of the cost of the scooter. For example, once launched, Honda Activa with price Rs 60k, can get this technology for Rs 6k. While the specific details on how the technology works is still not being discussed, this video gives us a clear idea about what to expect in terms of performance. This is not the first self-balancing two wheeler technology in the world but as most engineering innovations that come out of India demonstrated in the past, this one is affordable.

Co-founders Vikas Poddar (IIT Madras) and Ashutosh Upadhyay (IIT Kharagpur) say that the technology would only make the two wheelers expensive by 10% but it opens up the possibility of safer and more intelligent two wheelers. In fact, they already have a prototype which can respond to voice commands and park itself. To see the prototype do its thing feels almost magical! It took the Liger Mobility team thousands of lines of code, multiple prototypes and two full years of intense development work to come up with an automatic scooter which makes stands redundant. Physically, self-balancing can be achieved by calibrating a ballast of sorts in real-time. To facilitate this, one would need a system of accurate sensors, quick actuators (like servo motors), and a robust algorithm. Looks like the Liger self-balancing scooter prototype has got it all.

The startup’s official website is not forthcoming with the product details or future road map yet. The company is still at a nascent stage and now that they already have a strong proof of concept, we could expect some investment to flow in. The technology is not without caveats. The system that keeps the bike from falling would consume considerable battery power which would either warrant a larger battery or lead to reduction in overall range. It would be interesting to see how Liger approaches this challenge. In addition to obvious benefit of enhanced safety, affordable self-balancing technology for two wheelers would go a long way in making them autonomous. The future is going to be interesting to say the least!

Liger Mobility, a start-up incubated by IIT graduates, has come up with an electric two wheeler that can self balance, a technology that is yet to be commercialised by auto giants like Yamaha and Honda.

While the two auto majors have shown concept motorcycles which can self balance, this technology is not launched in any production two wheeler, as the companies say it is still in R&D and very expensive.

However, the IIT Bombay-incubated EV startup has managed to come up with a similar self balance tech, which they claim is not expensive.

Founded by two IIT graduates with extensive experience, Liger Mobility brings cost-effective self-balancing technology to scooters. This system can be installed in any automatic scooter. Cost of this tech is 10 per cent of the cost of the scooter. Once launched, a scooter with a price tag of Rs60,000 can get this technology for Rs6,000, they claim.

While the specific details on how the technology works is still not being discussed, this video gives us a clear idea about what to expect in terms of performance. This is not the first self-balancing two wheeler technology in the world but as most engineering innovations that come out of India demonstrated in the past, this one is affordable.

CARTOQ – India’s first self balancing electric scooter is the COOLEST thing you’ll see today [Video]

Two-wheelers have always been the favourite vehicle type for the commuters to move around. While two-wheelers are extremely easy to manoeuvre through thick traffic, they are regarded as more dangerous due to the lack of stability. Well, an Indian start-up Liger Mobility has come up with a solution that may change the way people ride two-wheelers forever. And, it is the coolest thing that you will get to see today! The start-up by a group of IIT and ISB alumni has invented a product that allows the scooter to self-balance and follows voice commands! The product is still in the prototype stage and will take some more time before it becomes a reality. In the video, we can see Ashutosh Upadhyay, co-founder, Liger Mobility giving a voice command to the scooter. The scooter receives the reverse command and comes out of the parking slot on its own! The feature of voice-activated parking has not been seen in any of the vehicles till now. It is really cool how it reverses without a rider to control it. The video also shows the “Feet always onboard” feature of the scooter. It allows the rider to keep the feet on the floorboard all the time. This is due to a device that has been developed for the scooter that keeps it in balance all the time. The rider does not need to worry about falling down anymore because the device actively works to counterbalance the forces and keep it upright. The scooter can also counter the forces when someone is sitting on it and stay balanced. Moreover, if the scooter gets hits by the side, the device will keep it upright, which will ensure the safety of the rider. The device has been made by the team of Liger after two years of research and several prototypes. This can be installed in both petrol-powered and electric scooters whenever it is ready. According to the video, the addition of the device will increase the price of the scooter by only 10 per cent, which is quite affordable. It is not known by when the device will be ready for mass-segment production and if it will be available for all the scooters in the market. However, it does look like a promising project and it has a lot of potential of becoming successful in the Indian market, which is one of the largest two-wheeler markets in the world. This is not the first self-balancing prototype scooter. Earlier, major automobile manufacturers like Honda and BMW showcased their own self-balancing products in the prototype stage. However, the introduction of such scooters in the market seems like years away and it will require a lot of testing and research too. We do hope that such devices are available for two-wheelers in the near future.
